The Museum Haus C.G. Jung in Küsnacht, the former residence of Carl Gustav and Emma Jung-Rauschenbach, is a memorial of unique charisma. The building and gardens bear the unmistakable signature of C.G. Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, ...
The garden
C.G. Jung was not only responsible for the planning and design of his house in Küsnacht, but also for the idea and design of the garden. According to his ideas, he created a landscape together with the renowned horticultural firm E. Mertens' Erbe, which merged garden and building into a unique ensemble. Almost unchanged, this garden realm of Jung's still presents itself today.
Coming from the Seestrasse, an atmospheric view of the estate opens up to visitors. A small avenue with two paved lanes - flanked by conical box trees - leads to the former residence of the Jung-Rauschenbach family. The upper part of the garden with its fruit trees and useful plants differs from the lower ornamental garden facing the lake. A traditional English-style sunken garden fronts the house's glazed veranda. This garden compartment, with its lower lawn, features an expansive vase with handles planted with flowers in its centre. Jung used to sit here on sunny days under the pines for coffee. Towards the shore, a graceful garden pavilion borders the property on the left. Jung called this place his "little cabin by the lake". Across the reeds on the lake, there is a panoramic view of the opposite shore. A breakwater leads out into the lake and forms a small harbour in front of the boathouse. This was the mooring for the Pelican, Jung's beloved sailboat, and for his dinghy. From here, a gravel path leads to the stone square, sheltered by trees and surrounded by cherry laurel. In this idyllic place - the "garden room" - C.G. Jung also used to receive his patients from time to time during the summer.
