Delphine von Schauroth (1813–1887) was a enfant prodige and went on to become a successful pianist. Her musical career spanned – despite three marriages and long breaks – a period of around 50 years.
As a virtuoso, she was mentioned in the same breath as Clara Schumann, Franz Liszt and Felix Mendelssohn. During her lifetime, only her ‘Songs Without Words’ were published; these were enthusiastically reviewed by Robert Schumann in the ‘Neue Zeitschrift für Musik’.
