DOCUMENTARY FILM – MY NEW OLD SELF

By Louise Unmack Kjeldsen
From sleepless nights and self-doubt to the forefront of international menopause research: MY NEW OLD SELF combines personal experiences with the latest scientific findings. A clever, moving and surprisingly entertaining documentary that permanently changes the way we view the menopause.
What happens to our bodies and our brains when the menopause begins? Why do many women suddenly feel like strangers in their own lives? And why do we still know so little about a phase of life that affects almost every woman?
Drawing on her own experiences, Danish director Louise Unmack Kjeldsen sets out in search of answers. She speaks to women going through the change and leading researchers investigating the impact of hormonal changes on the body and brain – and explains why the menopause has been so long underestimated by the medical profession.
MY NEW OLD SELF dispels myths and prejudices. The film makes it clear: the menopause is not a marginal issue, but affects our society as a whole – and greater knowledge is the key to a better understanding of this stage of life.
