DOKFILM - SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS
By Ken Wardrop
By Ken Wardrop
Christmas without the kitsch? The Irish can pull it off. SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS combines dry humour with great humanity and tells the story of people who find their very own way through the festive season, amidst grief, chaos and hope. The perfect film for Christmas Eve. You’ll laugh and cry – and go home with a grateful heart.
For some, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year; for others, the most difficult. Award-winning Irish director Ken Wardrop accompanies five people who don’t always have it easy through the weeks leading up to Christmas, with great intimacy and without a trace of sentimentality.
With great sensitivity, the film weaves their stories into a moving mosaic of hope, vulnerability and solidarity. SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS shows just how far the glittering expectations of the festive season often lie from reality – and it is precisely in this that it uncovers the quiet moments of humanity that give Christmas its true magic.
A documentary that is as warm-hearted as it is honest, which does not romanticise Christmas – and is precisely for that reason a film that strikes right at the heart.
