A stage adaptation of the epistolary novella set between two close friends – an American art dealer and his former business partner, who returns from the USA to Germany during the interwar period.
This story of a profound friendship with an unpredictable ending became a literary sensation in the USA in 1939. In the same year, it was placed on the list of banned books by the German Reich Commissioner and remains a global bestseller to this day.
A story about what can happen to people blinded by a distorted ideology also serves as a timely warning today against racism, nationalism and intolerance in general.
