A woman’s business!

Choral concert: Songs by women and for women, and *The Zurich Petitioners of 1868*

With songs by and for women – including those from Finland, Georgia, Italy, Mexico and South Africa – we are creating a space for women’s voices. We sing alongside those who campaign for self-determination and in honour of those who paid with their lives for their commitment to the right to freedom.

The world premiere of the choral suite ‘Die Zürcher Petitionärinnen 1868’ by Jean-François Michel also highlights a little-known aspect of Zurich’s history: the letters written by the women of Zurich to the government, expressing their desire for fair inheritance rights, access to better education, and their plea for ‘the right to vote and stand for election in all social and political matters’ – as early as May 1868.

A multifaceted and diverse programme featuring over 50 female singers – a truly women’s affair – for everyone!
