Gabi Fuhrimann

The small-scale works by the Aargau-based artist Gabi Fuhrimann (1958–2021) invite the viewer to step closer. The mostly square, geometrically composed paintings are arranged like a mosaic. Often, a woman stands at the centre as the subject. Her body almost disappears into the interplay of colours – but not quite. Our proximity to the picture creates an intimate viewing experience, much like a devotional image, in which we see the figure reading, dancing or spreading her arms. Any one of us could be this woman: thus, the picture also becomes a projection screen or even a mirror.

The Aargauer Kunsthaus collected works during the artist’s lifetime and is dedicating a collection focus to her.
