Giacometti – I CAN’T

A play with music by Andres Brütsch and Matthias Ziegler

Self-doubt | Art | Encounter

Alberto Giacometti is one of the most significant artists of the 20th century and, in his vulnerability, one of the most human. Born in Bergell in 1901, we will celebrate his 125th birthday in 2026. Giacometti’s struggle for success and his constant failure as an artistic principle remain timelessly relevant.

The script by Zug-based author and filmmaker Andres Brütsch reveals a lesser-known side of Giacometti – his inner conflicts, his attitude towards art, his self-doubt. It is these largely unknown confessions that make this play – written by and starring Andres Brütsch, with live music by Matthias Ziegler – an invitation to a fresh encounter with Giacometti.

Andres Brütsch has worked as a writer, director and cinematographer on advertising and corporate films in Europe and the USA, and has produced films through his production company in Switzerland and the USA. He has received awards in New York and Cannes and has written documentary films. For several years, he lectured on storytelling at the HSLU. He is the author of two novels, *Schiffbruch und Wahrheit* and *Sein Name Pejdr Vuolp*. *Giacometti – NON RIESCO* is his first play.

The Swiss musician Matthias Ziegler is one of the most versatile and innovative flautists of his generation and a professor of flute and improvisation at the Zurich University of the Arts. In his search for new sounds, he has vastly expanded the expressive potential of the conventional flute and the electroacoustically amplified contrabass flute.
