Orpheum Konzert - Young Soloists on Stage
Joana Mallwitz is one of the most sought-after conductors of her generation. Following her brilliant debut with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, she is now appearing for the first time as chief conductor with "her" Konzerthausorchester Berlin at the Tonhalle Zurich.
The concert programme features a solitaire of virtuoso literature, Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto. The 25-year-old Georgian pianist Giorgi Gigashvili, who was discovered by Martha Argerich and is as versatile as he is unconventional, has all the prerequisites for an unforgettable performance of this monumental concerto. Having already impressed as a soloist in two Orpheum recording projects with works by Mozart and Saint-Saëns, he presents himself on the Orpheum concert stage for the first time today.
Schubert's "great" C major symphony forms an equally symphonic contrast to the first part of the evening's music and also concludes the Schubert focus of the two Orpheum concerts this spring. There is no doubt that a very promising soiree lies ahead.
