On the Crime Tram with Yael Inokai and *The Oyster*

A luxury department store, a dead managing director and a loyal cleaner who harbours more secrets than she reveals. In *The Oyster*, acclaimed stylist Yael Inokai weaves a crime story that unfolds as an intricately woven web of human destinies.

The managing director of a legendary department store is found murdered. But by the time the police arrive at the scene, Leonora Bloch has removed all traces – as discreetly and thoroughly as she has tackled every form of disorder for the past 45 years as a cleaner at Dr Bronstett’s. When the investigation leads to the oyster bar on the fifth floor, we find ourselves right at the heart of this department store’s microcosm, which thrives on the paradoxical longing for past splendour and affordable luxury. And in this world, where glamour and squalor, poverty and wealth clash so disarming, no one seems to know it better than 73-year-old Leonora. But does she really know all the secrets, and which ones does she keep to herself?

Yael Inokai will be signing copies of her book after the reading at the Belcafé.
