Frederick Wiseman follows the employees and defendants through the rooms and corridors of a juvenile court. The result is a sensitive film about the processes in court and the human limits of justice.
The juvenile court in Memphis is the setting for Frederick Wiseman's documentary. The camera accompanies a judge, a youth worker and the various defendants during hearings, interviews and when judgements are passed or measures are enforced. As always, Wiseman gets very close to his protagonists through pure observation. At the same time, the director makes no explicit moral judgements on either side. The result is a polyphonic and timeless picture of a justice system that cannot do justice to the dramatic fates of the young people with its own resources and yet always has to find a solution.
