The Song of the Forests

Documentary (France, 2025), directed by Vincent Munier

Following on from *La Panthère des neiges*, wildlife photographer and documentary director Vincent Munier once again takes us on a breathtakingly beautiful journey. Deep in the forests of the Vosges, he learnt from his father how to read the animals’ tracks and explore where they feed, hunt, build their nests and sleep. Now it is time to pass this knowledge on to Simon, Vincent’s son. Together, the three set out to discover the diversity and enchanting beauty of the ancient, moss-covered forest. Hidden beneath the trees, grandfather, father and son spend many nights outdoors, observing and listening to the myriad sounds. And we discover with them deer, owls, foxes and lynx – and sometimes even the flapping of wings belonging to a very rare animal: the capercaillie. ‘Le Chant des forêts’ builds a bridge between humans and nature, day and night, the personal and the universal: a visually stunning, sensual cinematic poem.
