Reading: Thomas Sarbacher reads from Khaled Khalifa's novel "Death is a Labourious Business"
Thomas Sarbacher (actor, born in Hamburg, lives in Zurich) will read from Khaled Khalifa's novel "Death is a Labourious Business" at Deldar Felemez's request. The Syrian author, screenwriter and poet Khaled Khalifa (born 1964 in Aleppo, died 2023 in Damascus) was and is of great importance to Deldar Felemez's work. Khalifa is one of the most important authors of Arab modernism and is considered an important critic of the Assad regime. The author and his works have repeatedly come under the scrutiny of the censorship authorities, and parts of his works have been banned and published abroad. The novel takes the reader on a tragic-comic road trip of three Syrian siblings through the devastated country. They travel with their father's body from Damascus to his home village in Aleppo, an almost impossible endeavour in times of war. A story of oppression and destruction, but also of timeless hope.
