The year is 1899, and the Wild West is well and truly over. The ageing gunslinger Jack Beauregard (Henry Fonda) agrees and wants to retire quietly and discreetly to Europe. But he hasn’t reckoned with his enemies. And then, of all people, he meets Nobody (Terence Hill), his greatest admirer. Nobody wants to give Beauregard a spectacular, memorable send-off and, to that end, plans a showdown with the ‘Wild Bunch’, a horde of one hundred and fifty outlaws.
Sergio Leone was involved as a screenwriter on this comedy, which also parodies his own Westerns. This light-hearted and at times deliberately silly film relies entirely on its contrasting protagonists, who harmonise perfectly here. Henry Fonda relishes playing the Western hero once more, whilst Terence Hill gets to indulge his slapstick humour in the finest Hill-Spencer tradition.
