I have a womb
What really drives us? Portraits as a reflection of their time
A blonde woman with wavy hair is sitting in a modern leather armchair. She gazes, smiling dreamily, towards a hand mirror or into the void. Her heel rests on a mottled cowhide that resembles a map. The window in the background offers a view of a frozen landscape under a full moon. The designer lamp appears as an observing eye or like a solar eclipse in the room. Is this about self-presentation and appearances, or does this portrait reflect the global events of our time?
The sculpture of the head supported by an arm and hand, from the work of Melanie Rüegg-Leuthold, encapsulates a similar situation. Set against a neutral background, it derives its striking effect from its reduction to the arm, the hand, the head and the face. Here, however, the gesture points more towards the inner life, towards thoughtful self-reflection and the weight of existence.
Gaze, symbols and meanings bring Nina Mambourg’s powerful portraits into a compelling dialogue with the works of Albert Rüegg and Melanie Rüegg-Leuthold. Look forward to a stimulating artistic exploration.
