NoUs heights
How can a dramaturgy of circus movement be developed in which physicality not only demonstrates technical virtuosity, but also reveals the sensitivity and vulnerability of the performers on stage?
NoUs hauteurs is a piece centred entirely on the Chinese pole – the company’s central apparatus and the symbol of its circus-artistic language. Five performers and a musician move within a space defined by five vertical poles. The entire dramaturgy of the production unfolds from this spatial structure.
The poles become a framework upon which the bodies write their stories. Drawing on their individual experiences, memories and feelings, the performers explore their limits whilst simultaneously pursuing success, taking risks and pushing themselves beyond their limits.
NoUs hauteurs combines artistic virtuosity with a deeply human dimension. The piece invites the audience to experience the company’s passion for the circus and to understand what drives them.
Reaching upwards yet firmly anchored to the ground, the poles are designed so that they can take root anywhere: on streets, in public spaces, in fields or in woods. At its heart, the piece celebrates the power of coming together and creating as one, despite the challenges of our times.
