The comedic body

The workshop is divided into two different parts. The first half focuses on the quality of floor work through various sets of rolls across the floor, which train the flow, compactness and explosiveness of the movements. The quality of movement is a fusion of contemporary dance and acrobatics. The second part of the course is dedicated to improvisation. We will work with contradictory developments within the movements by opening our brains and senses to impulses and learning which impulses to choose, when and for how long, and when and how to drop them. This will open up a creative playing field and give us tools on how to integrate everything we have learnt into a creative context. Then we will start the session on physical comedy. How can you tell a joke or be funny when you are just moving, without context, without language. I will give you different tools and insights into the comedic body and how to tell an abstract story, alone or together.

Luisa Schmitz
Luisa Schmitz was born in Zurich and works as a dancer, choreographer, coach and dance teacher. She completed her bachelor's degree in stage dance and choreography at the Fontys Hoogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg (NL). For the past two years, she has been travelling as an artist with the Chnopf circus and has been teaching circus and movement to children and young people ever since. She teaches children the art of circus in an encouraging and motivating way. When she is not teaching, she tours Europe with her own clown duo or walks through the forests of Zurich with her dog

Das Zirkusquartier ist ausserhalb der Schulferien täglich ab 15 Uhr für die Kurse geöffnet. An Vorstellungstagen öffnet die Tür 60 Minuten vor Beginn und die Bar ist geöffnet.

The auditorium is wheelchair accessible. The box office and bar are unfortunately on the 1st floor. The Circus Quarter does not have an elevator.
