Immersive & interactive virtual reality installation
about the meeting of drifting worlds

"Meeting in friendship? How is that possible when incompatible views & worlds stand between us?"- That is the question; and the answer is nowhere in sight. That's why visitors to 'Close Encounters' embark on an immersive & interactive expedition. Equipped with virtual reality goggles, they beam themselves into a parallel universe and explore a world that has similarly deep rifts as ours, but perhaps also a means of bridging them.

The journey leads through a labyrinth of surreal visual & soundscapes populated by dancers & actors (or their three-dimensionally scanned avatars). Here, everyone has a diametrically opposed counterpart, but they still play closely together as a duo by starting with the common points of contact rather than the point of contention.

And because the view through these glasses is quite poetic in view of the violent conflicts in the real world, relevant experts also have their say, shedding light on the topic from a real-life perspective.

pulp.noir is a multi-art collective from Zurich and was founded in 2004 to develop new artistic formats outside of established structures and trends. Since then, the group has been operating at the interface between the arts and dealing with cases of the all-too-human as well as acute socio-political issues. It does so in art spaces, on theatre stages & in music clubs, and since the present day also in the digital space.
