Reto U. Schneider ● The Horse That Knew Too Much
Book launch
How Clever Hans achieved world fame and is now demystifying AI.
A revolution! A revelation! The eighth wonder of the world in the form of a horse! Berlin in the summer of 1904 is in an uproar: every day, crowds of onlookers flock to a back courtyard in Prenzlauer Berg to watch a horse think. Clever Hans can do maths, read and answer questions by tapping his hooves. Autumn 2022: millions of people around the world are trying out a new form of artificial intelligence: ChatGPT answers questions, writes poems and engages in stimulating conversations. Hardly anyone realises yet just how closely these two events are linked. But shortly afterwards, Clever Hans becomes a symbol of a fundamental problem in artificial intelligence. A thrilling ride through the history of science – both profound and entertaining!
The book is published by Molden Verlag.
