I couldn't care less
BE/F 2021
A flight attendant for a low-cost airline struggles her way through her precarious present whilst partying. Adèle Exarchopoulos in a stirring role, searching for her place in a nomadic life.
As soon as Cassandre takes off her protective uniform, she lets herself go. Stationed in a shared flat in Lanzarote as a flight attendant for a budget airline, she copes with stress and grief through dating apps, vodka and Eurotrash party hits, whilst the reality of her family home tries to seep through via voice messages.
With RIEN À FOUTRE (FUCKS GIVEN), the directing duo Emmanuel Marre and Julie Lecoustre have created a study of a profession and a character with an almost documentary-like, stark immediacy. The camera relentlessly focuses on Adèle Exarchopoulos as she moves amongst real airline staff. With disarming vulnerability, she plays a tragicomic millennial in a hyper-capitalist world, rushing back and forth as a flying nomad between inhospitable transit hubs. And yet she is searching for her own path. The film is melancholic and moving – with quiet contrasts, evocative imagery and a fittingly emotional soundtrack.
