‘Dazzling Bubbles’ | 45 minutes with Hannes Binder

The illustrator Hannes Binder responds to the exhibition ‘Schillernde Blasen. Friedrich Glauser – Nando von Arb’ and offers an insight into his own long-standing engagement with Glauser.

‘Through his pictures, Hannes Binder recounts what he has read, just as an enthusiastic reader always begins to tell a story – this is something other than illustration; it is storytelling in and of itself.’ Peter Bichsel sums up the artistic essence of Binder’s work beautifully. Hannes Binder has been following in Glauser’s footsteps for fifty years: from his first comics, through graphic novels, to his own stories in which fact and fiction intertwine. There is scarcely a text by Glauser that Binder has not expanded upon through his drawings. His unmistakable scrap-cardboard pictures are far more than mere illustrations; they carry the stories forward and enter into a lively dialogue with the author. Having previously exhibited his scrap-cardboard drawings at the Litar Gallery, he will now be our guest for an afternoon. He will be presenting his latest book ‘Glauser in Nervi’ (Limmat Verlag 2025) and offers an insight into his decades-long artistic engagement with the work of Friedrich Glauser.

Hannes Binder (*1947) studied at the Zurich School of Applied Arts and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Milan and Hamburg. He now lives in Zurich as a freelance illustrator. His work has received numerous awards; in 2022, he was awarded the Canton of Zurich’s Culture Prize for his artistic achievements.

The exhibition is open before and after the event: from 1 pm to 4 pm.
