schön&gut – Under the open sky

The open-air play *Die Blutbuche* is staged in Grosshöchstetten only once every 50 years, and on just a single evening each time, as the tree is felled at the end of the play. Theatre fever grips the whole village. But the director, Mrs Gut, soon reaches her limits, as the mayor, Mr Kellenberger – playing the role of the freedom fighter Wüthrich – won’t take any nonsense, and Mr Schön – as Vogt Hünigwald – isn’t interested in clinging to old traditions anyway. In other words: everyone is riding and talking at cross purposes.

When Schön resorts to a radical measure in the fierce dispute over the power of interpretation, freedom and democracy, suddenly much more than just a play is at stake.
