‘Stich’ by Sarah Altenaichinger

What happens when hands suddenly stop doing what they have been doing for centuries? When a body loses its rhythm and lets you down? In this stage play, the theme of chronic illness is skilfully interwoven with the world of textile handicrafts: the steady rhythm of knitting needles, the recurring twinge in joints, the knots and tears, the patience, the capitalist implications and the possibilities for resistance.

Somewhere between spoken word and delicate storytelling, an evening unfolds exploring health and work, pain and care, and the question of how our society deals with bodies that become entangled. Sarah Altenaichinger spins sailor’s yarns and delicate bonds. And in doing so, she takes all the threads into her own hands.
