Zurich Cantonal Theatre: ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’

with Eva Maropoulos

The story of a young girl who retains her hope, courage and will to live even in times of persecution and fear – a moving theatrical experience.

Anne Frank is 13 years old when her father gives her a red-chequered diary as a birthday present. She lives in Amsterdam with her family. When her sister Margot receives a summons on 5 July 1942 to report for ‘labour service in Germany’, the Jewish family is forced to go into hiding to prevent their deportation to a concentration camp. The family now lives in hiding for two years in the rear annex of her father Otto Frank’s company, and Anne writes in her diary about her everyday experiences, fears and hopes.

‘So much has happened, it’s as if the world has suddenly turned upside down. But, Kitty, you can see that I’m still alive, and that’s the main thing, says Dad.’ – Anne Frank
