‘Underground Money – Coins found in Zurich soil’

Since 1986 – that is, for 40 years now – coins discovered in the Canton of Zurich, whether unearthed during archaeological excavations or found by metal detectorists and private individuals, have been processed, analysed and preserved at the Winterthur Numismatic Museum. This anniversary is the focus of the new exhibition at the Münzkabinett, organised in cooperation with the Zurich Cantonal Archaeology Department.

The exhibition showcases not only spectacular finds – of which there is no shortage – but also lost, everyday small change, which reveals much about the use of money in Celtic and Roman times, the Middle Ages and the modern era.
