Urs Zürcher ● Disappearance

The author masterfully weaves together Swiss and German contemporary history spanning nearly forty years with personal life stories. With empathetic narrative power, Urs Zürcher takes us into the realm of the far right and brings to light people who, for that very reason, frighten and shock us all the more.

A quadruple murder of Tamils in an asylum seekers’ centre in Chur; neo-Nazi-fuelled xenophobia in Switzerland in the late 1980s. Forgotten and hushed up. But the past becomes the present when the author and historian Urs Zürcher, whilst searching for true crime , stumbles upon a mysterious human skeleton in a building pit on the outskirts of Basel at the end of a long summer on 12 September 2023.
A skilfully crafted story, more intense and unsettling than any form of documentary realism could ever achieve, for pure facts are a fiction. But what is narrative truth?

The book is published by Bilgerverlag.
