FROM SCHLIERE TO NEW JERSEY

or “Any pain is better than nothing”

Based on the two-person play

“Heisenberg – The Uncertainty Principle”

Georgie Burns, a 42-year-old American – impulsive and full of joie de vivre – happens to bump into Alex Stierli, a reserved, older butcher from Schlieren, at Altstetten station. Their initial argument leads to an unusual, challenging relationship. Georgie’s unpredictable nature and her contradictory stories prompt Alex to question his habits and his loneliness. Georgie struggles with her past and her relationship with her son. Between closeness and distance, truth and lies, a fragile story unfolds about change and the possibility of striking out on new paths, even late in life. As their relationship develops, the two grow closer and learn to overcome their fears. Alex opens himself up to intimacy once more. Love and trust often only emerge when one has the courage to allow oneself to feel insecure. The play, which is set in London in the original, has been relocated to Zurich to give the audience a more immediate connection to the story.
