Preview: "Rockstar Matthias"

The film offers a deep insight into Matthias Noser’s life: his passion for music and art, his chronic mental illness and the various relationships that have shaped him. Since the age of 15, Matthias has been living with paranoid schizophrenia, which manifests itself in recurrent psychotic episodes. Long-term hospitalisations have shaped many years of his life. It was in this context that he met Christoph Rahm, then a psychiatric nurse, now a filmmaker. From that first encounter — far removed from institutional settings and after a period of separation — a friendship developed. The bond between the two is their shared enthusiasm for creativity and existential questions. Art makes encounters possible, free from prejudice. In the documentary, this microcosm is complemented by family members, therapists and companions, who all have their say. The audience is immersed in Matthias’s world of music, imagery and thought. His work is obsessive, consistent and honest.
