Walter De Maria
Curated by Christian Herren
Taking The 2000 Sculpture as its point of departure, the exhibition brings together works from different phases of Walter De Maria’s practice. It considers how De Maria’s precise systems and formal structures extend beyond what can be fully grasped or contained. Geometry, repetition, language and serial order unfold through time and movement, producing tensions between visibility and withdrawal, order and danger, material finitude and the suggestion of the immeasurable. In this sense, reduction in De Maria’s work does not lead to emptiness, but to an intensification of perception and imagination.
