Christmas programme: What's Up, Doc?

In Peter Bogdanovich's brilliant homage to screwball comedy, four red travelling bags cause chaos in San Francisco. In the middle of it all, Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal prove their comedic talent.
In Peter Bogdanovich's brilliant homage to screwball comedies, four red overnight bags in San Francisco become the catalyst for proper chaos. Caught in the middle of it, Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal put the full extent of their acting prowess on display.

Four identical pieces of luggage land simultaneously at San Francisco airport. One belongs to the always absent-minded musicologist Dr Howard Bannister (Ryan O'Neal) and contains prehistoric stones. Another bag belongs to carefree student Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand). Coincidentally, the owners of the four bags are also staying at the same hotel, and the mix-ups soon begin. In the turbulent search for their own bag, Howard and Judy form an unequal and chaotic team.

With WHAT'S UP, DOC?, Peter Bogdanovich pays a loving tribute to the classics of screwball comedy. With plenty of pace and humour, he choreographs a wild chase across San Francisco and even manages to recreate the legendary car scene from BULLITT (1968) in a slightly different form. Barbra Streisand has never been funnier than in this comedy classic.
