Werner Rohner and Ulrike Ulrich ● Finding your own voice
A workshop discussion on courage, resonance and community as part of ‘Zurich Reads’
When does the desire to write turn into the courage to take it seriously? The writing duo Werner Rohner and Ulrike Ulrich read from their work and talk to Natalie Borsy about their journey into writing – and about what (or who) it takes to keep at it.
Writing is often seen as a solitary activity. Yet in reality, literature rarely emerges from working alone. Texts develop through conversation, careful reading, critical questioning and the people who accompany you on your journey.
Werner Rohner and Ulrike Ulrich have been writing and teaching writing together for many years. In conversation with cultural and social scientist Natalie Borsy, they offer insights into their own writing journeys, formative encounters and the experiences they have gained as leaders of writing workshops. How does one’s perspective on texts change when you are writing yourself whilst also guiding others? What can actually be taught – and what must all writers discover for themselves? A workshop discussion featuring readings and insights into the practice of literary work.
The discussion is organised by Haus zum Schreiben, a new cultural venue in Zurich dedicated to literary work, exchange and encounters.
Followed by drinks and light refreshments.
