TWO VOTES, ONE QUESTION: WHAT IS FAIR?

Following the clear approval of the 13th AHV pension in spring 2024, the public will now decide on how it is to be funded. Is the federal resolution on the additional funding of the AHV through a rise in VAT reasonable and acceptable to the public – particularly from the perspective of intergenerational fairness?
Furthermore, Switzerland approved individual taxation in the spring. The Centre Initiative ‘Yes to fair federal taxes for married couples too’ nevertheless aims to retain joint taxation, whilst ensuring, under constitutional law, that married couples are not disadvantaged compared to unmarried couples. Is this approach convincing – and is it worth re-examining the system change that has already been decided upon?
