Dance tips in December

What is life and work like for dance professionals away from the stage? Zurich Talks Dance is the right place for anyone interested in such questions. Under this title, a new platform has been created that offers all interested parties a deeper insight into the world of dance behind the scenes. Various discussion formats enable a public exchange on artistic, professional and educational topics as well as the opportunity to get to know dance professionals.

At Inside Out, students from the Tanz Akademie Zürich present excerpts from their exams. The performances as part of an end-of-year event provide insights into the various facets of dance training at all levels. The Austrian dance company Hungry Sharks is giving an insight into its current work as part of its residency at the Kurtheater Baden. Together, choreographer Valentin Alfery and producer and photographer Dušana Baltić repeatedly develop full-length dance productions. They primarily utilise the movement language of urban dance. In the showcase, they present short performances and the dance potential of breaking. An exciting insight into an exciting dance scene.

In Untitled (Nostalgia, Act 3), South African-born Tiran Willemse writes his own dance story. The choreographer draws on the romantic ballet Giselle, the kuduro from Angola and the Nigerian genre Alanta. Willemse's dance brings black experiences into a European context and, with Giselle's ghost story, tells of bodies in limbo between presence and absence. The dance piece creates an important space and visibility for bodies that usually remain invisible.
