Museum, with a difference

Special guided tours and events in the exhibitions and museums provide variety in December.

What better way to escape the hectic December atmosphere than to indulge in an exhibition? Various houses are not only offering their usual guided tours over the next few weeks, in December there are a few ways to experience museums in a new way and have immersive experiences with art.

Discover new sides

With a torch through the mysterious darkness of the Landesmuseum - that's what the special family tour (from 10 years) offers after the museum's official visiting hours are over. The halls empty and the journey of discovery begins.

At the age of 17, cellist Christoph Croisé made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York and has since been a guest in the world's great concert halls. The Kunsthaus brings him together with works from the Merzbacher and Bührle collections for a special concert evening. Picasse, Monet, Sisley, Renoir meet Piatti and Bach. Art and music at the highest level!

Jade is an important gemstone in Chinese culture and a symbol of numerous virtues. Small animal figurines are often given as gifts and collected, and are based on a tradition that goes back thousands of years. As part of the current exhibition "Forever Jade - Chinese Jade Miniatures from Four Millennia", Museum Rietberg is offering visitors the opportunity to create their own lucky animals - made of dough instead of jade, however, in keeping with the festive season, but much more digestible. On Sunday, 18 December, for the last time.

Art and the digital world have long been embarking on a joint adventure. Now the Kunsthaus is venturing a look at the possibilities of digital painting and expanding the current "Niki de Saint Phalle" exhibition in virtual space.

If you really want to escape from everyday life, the art-based Escape Room is the place to go. It is said that art lovers will get their money's worth here as they spend 60 minutes trying to find a world-famous work of art.

Getting started made easy

A kind of basic course on the subject of contemporary art is also taking place in the Helmhaus. From January onwards, every first Tuesday of the month, a concept of contemporary art will be explained and discussed on the basis of an exhibited work. Great for anyone looking for an introduction or wanting to consolidate basic knowledge.
