The Musikkollegium Winterthur was founded in 1629 and has been a professional orchestra since 1875. With its 50 musicians, it is now one of the ten leading professional orchestras in Switzerland. It performs around 40 concert programmes each season in the Stadthaus Winterthur.
Classical and early Romantic music are fixtures in the broad repertoire, which ranges from Baroque to contemporary modern. Renowned principal conductors such as Franz Welser-Möst and Heinrich Schiff have left their mark on the Musikkollegium Winterthur. As of the 2016/17 season, Thomas Zehetmair will take over the position of principal conductor.
Numerous CD recordings, some of them award-winning, testify to the Musikkollegium's high artistic standing.
