When the Rezital Konzerte were founded in 1980 by the composer and pianist Werner Bärtschi, the name "recital" was by no means familiar for musical events. The richness hidden behind the term "recital concerts" is revealed in the programmes that have been performed under this name at the Tonhalle Zurich to date. One of Werner Bärtschi's great concerns in putting together the programmes is always the following: A large arc is always drawn, an often unexpected connection established, across the individual concerts and across the entire season.
