Empathy and Conflict Resolution

Introductory course on empathy, City of Zurich

How can we maintain a constructive dialogue despite our differences and develop solutions together? What kind of communication helps us to be better understood by others? And how can dialogue skills contribute to more creative solutions and an empathetic self-perception?

A key factor in this is empathy – the ability to engage with the experiences of others. Johanna Mayerhofer, a trainer at Empathie Stadt Zürich, provides a comprehensive introduction to empathy and conflict resolution over seven consecutive course days. On the first evening, anyone interested can come along for a taster session with no obligation. No prior knowledge is required.

Empathie Stadt Zurich advocates the view that we do not all have to be of one heart and one mind in order to maintain social cohesion. The organisation has been working towards an empathetic society since 2020. In workshops and courses based on the approach of ‘Non-Violent Communication" by Marshall Rosenberg, participants learn what really matters:

  • We belong together, whether we like it or not.
  • We never stop listening to one another.
  • Despite our differences, we retain the ability to learn from conflicts and make decisions that promote cooperation and coexistence.

The remaining course dates: 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 November, 7 December (each from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm in the Erkerzimmer)

The course sessions build on one another and are designed as a coherent process. Participation is therefore only intended for the entire course. This first evening can be attended on its own as a taster session.
