Botanical Blue: Plant prints using cyanotype (course)

Known as one of the earliest photographic development processes, cyanotype is a unique yet simple manual process for creating distinctive blue prints. Using a light-sensitive solution that colours surfaces a distinctive shade of blue upon direct contact with light, original works with an extraordinary effect are created. This one-day course covers the technical fundamentals of this technique: from preparing the chemical solution to advanced development techniques for showcasing plants and botanical material in fascinating interplays of light and shadow. Step by step, creative methods such as bleaching and toning with natural substances are explored to achieve exciting colour nuances and surprising effects. Through experimental exercises, participants can explore the playful interplay of light, shadow and the textures of botanical forms. In the afternoon, the focus is on working on your own series of images – a space for your ideas, where you can create unique prints and further develop your personal visual narrative.
