Alternative Pop

Music is about relationships. And relationships can be frightening. Fear of the other. And fear of losing them. But singing helps to combat fear. And that’s why, on their new album *Somehow I Care*, silent neighbor sing of glimmers of hope and sparks of life, of a last-ditch struggle and the inevitable ride into ruin. Clear melodies paired with rich harmonies, backed by a band that is committed to the songs rather than to any single style. The result: an unmistakable sound that never stays the same for long. The one constant is the voice of singer-songwriter Philipp Saner, who has been performing his idiosyncratic reworkings of jazz, pop, rock and country sounds under the pseudonym silent neighbor for 14 years. Then as now, Saner’s songs explore the fissures beneath the surface of polite social interaction and, at times, plunge with great urgency into existential abysses, without ever losing their sense of humour amidst the tragedy.

Philipp Saner: vocals, guitars
Philipp Hillebrand: clarinet, saxophone
Tobias Pfister: keyboards
Mischa Frey: electric bass
Maxime Paratte: drums

Pino Zortea

Singer-songwriter / Contemporary jazz

The Zurich-based bassist, composer and songwriter Pino Zortea will be presenting his debut album ‘Bicycle Fantasies’ this evening. Following his studies in Zurich, New York and Basel, and numerous projects spanning jazz and popular music, he has developed his own musical language: warm, poetic and full of openness. His songs combine delicate songwriting with sonic depth and invite the listener to listen closely. The music leaves room to breathe and unfolds a quiet power that lingers long afterwards.

What unites both artists goes beyond their friendship: the joy of storytelling, the search for honesty and the courage to transform vulnerability into music. This evening thus promises two distinct musical worlds that complement one another in a special way – and together mark the beginning of two new chapters.
