Franconian brewing culture with Markus Raupach

A distinguished guest from the world of beer in Winterthur: Markus Raupach is making a visit to the former Haldengut town to introduce us to the diverse Franconian beer culture and present some mouth-watering food pairings – a culinary treat!

Markus Raupach is the founder of the German Beer Academy, a judge at beer competitions around the world, host of the ‘BierTalk’ podcast and arguably the foremost expert on Franconian beer culture. Shortly after founding his media agency in 1998, he began working as a photographer, journalist and media professional for breweries, hotels and restaurants.

Since 2005, the Bamberg-based author has also published over 50 books, including brewery guides for Franconia, Bavaria and Berlin, as well as the chronicle of the German Brewers’ Association to mark its 150th anniversary in 2021.

The numerous events he has organised since 2006 eventually gave rise to the idea of a beer academy, which he brought to fruition in 2013 – an achievement for which he was awarded the ‘Golden Beer Idea 2015’. In 2023, he was inducted as an honorary knight into the Brotherhood of Belgian Brewers.
