"Death - our daily bread" by Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzlinger

The two internationally renowned Swiss artists Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzlinger have long been concerned with memory culture. From found objects, they carefully create fragile and site-specific total works of art, mobiles, display arrangements and installations. For the exhibition "Death - Our Daily Bread" in the Cemetery Forum, the two are linking carefully selected grave objects from the collection of the burial office with a wide variety of "memory" loaves from their own collection.

In preparation for the exhibition, Steiner & Lenzlinger have created a wheat field on the meadow in front of the Cemetery Forum between spring and summer 2022. For the artist and the artist, the wheat field represents a symbolic transformation of released energy: "There is hardly a more beautiful way to connect life and death" (Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzlinger). Harvested with sickles and scythes, the wheat was transported from the Sihlfeld to the Mühlerama in Seefeld, where it was ground and made into art bread by the artists, which in turn found its way into the exhibition "Death - Our Daily Bread".
