Dance tips in November

The dance scene breaks with conventions, shows winners:inside of "Africa Simply the Best" and deals with the situation in Palestine.

Giselle or The What?

A dancer, four musicians and a white dance floor - sounds more like a contemporary dance performance than the famous ballet Giselle. But dancer Samantha van Wissen and director François Gremaud need nothing more to transport the audience into the world of Willis. In Giselle ... an ironic look at the conventions of romantic ballet without losing any of its elegance. Let yourself be enchanted!

Breaking with conventions

Florentina Holzinger also deals with the tradition of romantic ballet in her piece Dance. Women were transformed into fairies and ghosts with tutus and pointe shoes. But there is a lot of work and discipline behind the ideal image of the light airy being, which must, however, remain invisible in the ballet. Holzinger questions the heritage of dance and breaks with the beauty cult of ballet conventions. An exciting piece, contrary to any visual habits.

Culturescapes meets Africa Simply the Best

Three choreographers from Mali, South Africa and Cameroon will present their pieces at the Culturescapes festival. Bibata Ibrahim Maïga, Assanda Ruda and Tchina N'Djida are the winners of the Africa Simply the Best platform, which brings together artists from all over Africa in Burkina Faso every two years. Culturescapes shows three exciting choreographies about relationships to religion and society, the emancipation of one's own culture and the horror of leaving one's own country for a better future. You should not miss this opportunity!

Voices from Palestine

Rehearsed and planned for several months, Mirjam Sutter's dance performance from Palestine is highly topical. Together with four dancers from occupied territories, Sutter tells different visions of the current situation in Last Things Remaining and brings them to the stage. Through a collaborative, creative process and a mutual exchange of ideas, Western and Middle Eastern cultural, social and political perspectives meet, enter into dialogue and merge into a form of artistic language. A piece that gives performative expression to this theme with all its facets.
