Literary tips in March

In March, we can look forward to two vernissages, texts for the dead, a storytelling café and the awarding of the Zurich Crime Fiction Prize.

In the blue distance

While the first delicate green sprouts outside, the writer and publisher duo Dana Grigorcea and Perikles Monioudis are already bringing down a little blue from the sky with their two new novels. Two vernissages are celebrated in one week and with them the art that plays an important role in both books.

While in "The Deep Blue Dream" he tells the story of an entrepreneur in Zurich, Berlin, Boston and China, in "The Weight of a Bird Flying" we follow her to New York and the 1920s. Always in search of the question: What is art really? After the successful novel "Die nicht sterben", Grigorcea also tells her story in her new book with unrivalled charm, lightness and overwhelming power.

Monday 11 March | Vernissage "Das Gewicht eines Vogels beim Fliegen" | Kaufleuten Zurich, 8 pm, admission: CHF 25

Friday 15. March | Vernissage "Der tiefblaue Traum" | Buchhandlung Bodmer, 8 pm, limited number of seats, registration at: info@buchhandlung-bodmer.ch

Rest in Poetry

A multi-part experimental film series centres on contemporary authors who read texts for the dead. Each film is set in a cemetery, which itself becomes a protagonist thanks to its atmosphere and architecture. Performed by Anna Stern, Martina Caluori, Mirelle Zindel and Romana Ganzoni. After the film premiere, Gesa Schneider talks to the director, the readers and Michael Stavarič, the bestselling author and producer of the series.

Storytelling and remembering

Anyone who has ever exchanged life stories with previously unknown people in a safe space knows about the warm and bonding feeling that such storytelling cafés leave behind. The Migros Museum of Contemporary Art is now organising one as part of the "Material Memories" exhibition. All you need to bring is your own memories. Meeting point on the ground floor at the museum entrance. The event will be led by Sabine Hofmann, moderator for storytelling cafés FHNW.

Award of the Zurich Crime Thriller Prize

And finally, an event on our own behalf: "Nachtschein", the second instalment in the Rosa Zambrano series, has been nominated for the Zurich Crime Fiction Prize. There will be a colourful evening with the other two nominees Gabriela Kasperski and Sunil Mann. There will be short readings and the opportunity to raise a glass together with all three of us. To life, to writing.
