Live music in June

We ignore the international football tournament and celebrate the international music scene, which is back in Zurich this month.

Enji

Have you ever heard Mongolian folk music? The singer Enji is currently taking it out into the world quite successfully and is also making a stop in Zurich. Enji wraps the cosy, foreign singing in restrained jazz instrumentation. The native of Munich got to know jazz at the Goethe-Institut in Ulaanbaatar and later studied jazz singing.

Sensitive chamber jazz meets Mongolian folklore.

Obliecht

Admittedly, I usually have a hard time with dialect in pop music. But Obliecht have convinced me that it can work. They not only weave dialect into their hypnotic, dreamy indie pop, but also the Appenzell dulcimer. A discovery!

Fuchigami to Funato & Neko

You have to love Helsinki for the fact that it offers a stage to the most niche, enthusiastic projects from all over the world. Among the musicians who regularly perform here are Junko Fuchigami and Hiroshi Funato from Japan, who make sugar-sweet, rapturous folk in a way that perhaps the Moldy Peaches last did over twenty years ago.

Ty Segall

If you don't like guitars, you'll hate Ty Segall. For everyone else, the Californian's music is highly recommended. Changing between garage, psychedelic and folk, he revives the good old days of guitar music. And the fuzz pedal pushed to the max.

Evelinn Trouble

Evelinn Trouble no longer needs to be introduced to anyone in Zurich. The exceptional musician is characterised by inexhaustible energy and a constant interest in new things. Now, after a career spanning more than 15 years, she has cleared out her hard drive and made a new album out of it. She will be presenting it at the Waxy Bar on two consecutive evenings in an intimate setting.

20-21 June, Waxy Bar
