Oum Shatt

Oum Shatt are an exceptional phenomenon in the German music scene. The supergroup around Berlin all-round drummer Chris Imler sounds neither like Berlin nor like a specific place or time. Rock'n'roll sounds from different generations, influences from the Orient and Occident flow together to form a beguiling mixture. And even more so than before on their new album Opt Out, which they will be presenting in Helsinki.

"Welcome to the Darkobert Era" is what someone wrote under the latest Dagobert video. This fits perfectly with the songs about death and love that the singer has compiled on his new album "Schwarz". He will present them at Bogen F in an acoustic setting and, for once, in front of a seated audience.

Currents Festival: L’Rain, Noémi Büchi, Moor Mother

The Currents Festival at Moods and Exil aims to be a stage for contemporary music that stands between all genre boundaries. This year, the two days at Moods are particularly exciting, bringing very experimental artists to the stage. L'Rain, for example, celebrates a kind of ambient R'n'B that unfolds the pull of an LSD trip. Moor Mother mixes jazz and hip-hop with activism and earthy spirituality. And the currently omnipresent acoustic researcher Noémi Büchi presents the world premiere of her work "Cataclysm" for wind instruments and electronics.

Idles

The Idles have pulled off a little coup with their latest video. In it, you can see Chris Martin, the singer from Coldplay, running along a beach dripping with rain, just like in the video for the early Coldplay hit "Yellow" from 2000. But Idles don't have much in common with the pop supergroup: although their sound is always different, it is always dirty, loud and evil. Zurich will be the only stop in Switzerland on their tour this year.

Noura Mint Seymali

Of the many desert blues acts that have attracted attention in recent years, Noura Mint Seymali is definitely one of the most interesting. After all, she is the only internationally recognised musician from Mauritania and therefore an ambassador for a musical culture that remains largely unknown to most of us. Seymali's vocals and her nine-string harp, which is only played by women in the desert country, become part of an unheard-of jam session on stage, complemented on the other side by a classic bass, drums and guitar instrumentation.

Black Milk, Retrogott & Hulk Hodn, MC Rene

Old-school hip-hop will be celebrated at the Alte Kaserne on this evening and the organisers of the Hip Hop Zoo have once again managed to lure a formidable line-up to Zurich. Retrogott and Hulk Hodn are the kings of German-language battle rap, while Black Milk is a representative of sophisticated US rap in the style of J Dilla and Madlib. And then there's MC Rene, an old acquaintance from the very early years of German hip-hop.
