Live music in May

You could almost still call Peach Tinted newcomers. After all, the Austrian band's stop at the Brauerei Oerlikon is part of the first European tour of the duo, which was founded in 2019. And their sound is also very aptly described as "refreshing": Electronic-tinged indie pop between slackerism and big emotions. More of it with pleasure!

Noa Kurzweil's debut album is four and a half hours long, which alone makes it a difficult thicket to penetrate. Her stage name Voice Actor, however, makes it clear what arc the work spans: These are voices, sometimes as sampled snippets of voice messages, sometimes as brooding lines of poetry floating over ambient sound. One can imagine a screening of these pieces as a performance rather than a concert. It thus fits wonderfully into the Schauspielhaus.

Listening to Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats is like travelling back twenty years. To the time when stoner rock saved itself into the new millennium with the great albums of Queens Of The Stone Age and reinvented itself. Or is it rather 50 years back to the heyday of Black Sabbath? The first time I heard Fabian Altstötter sing, it was clear to me that his voice would take him far. He was 17 or 18 at the time and was playing with his band Sizarr in a small shop in the area where we both grew up. Sizarr were to become Germany's indie figureheads a few years later, and after just two albums they went their separate ways again. He has just released his second album under the name Jungstötter: a sparklingly melancholic work between pop and melancholy, which he will present at Bogen F.

These tender ballads, at once deeply heartbreaking and light-hearted, are as much a match for a sun-drenched afternoon as the iced drink in your hand.
