Tips for the Winterthur Short Film Festival

We've already reported on the Winterthur International Short Film Festival, so there's no getting round it. For an overview and the recurring formats, we therefore recommend rereading "Short days, short films". Here we bring together our not-so-obvious favourites from this year's edition.

Murder is sport

After the huge success of "Sport is Murder" at the penultimate festival, a sequel was needed. And what could be more obvious than the same title in reverse? The fun of "Sport is Murder" was that the cinema audience was encouraged to take part. Let's see how it goes this year...

Swiss Film School Day

The ideal choice for anyone who wants to take a look at the cinematic future of our country, doesn't want to spend any money and has Thursdays off. It's particularly touching when debut films flicker across the big screen for the first time and the filmmakers themselves have their say afterwards!

He’s Got the Look

One focus of this year's Short Film Festival is on the visual arts: "Beyond the Frame" consists of programmes inspired by works from the Oskar Reinhart "Am Römerholz" collection. While experience has shown that anything too conceptual harbours certain dangers, "He's Got the Look" promises a refreshingly different look at the human body - the male body, scandalously enough.

Rebekka's tip: 100 years of Praesens film: Switzerland in commissioned film

I'm always on hand when old films are on the programme, especially when it comes to advertising. This promising screening brings together advertising and commissioned films from the 20s, 30s and 40s and provides insights into long-gone and oppressively contemporary Swiss realities.

Sebastian's tip: Schtubetanz

A film festival is made up of films and parties. And the Schtubetanz is something of an insider tip among all short film festival parties: on Sunday nights, when good citizens have long since gone to bed, we dance with the filmmakers to the accomplished festival. And rumour has it that, with a bit of luck, the bar manager will be extremely generous that night.
