Dance Highlights in February 2023

These monthly highlights from the Zurich dance scene are not to be missed.

More Mermaids, less plastic!

Reut Nahum and her company address one of the most pressing issues of our time in OMFG_oh my fluffy garbage: our environment. A group of children and adults, their dance piece offers a playful framework for thinking about climate change, hopeful strategies and creative measures. The piece is recommended for children aged 6 and up, but is certainly just as relevant and worth seeing for adults.

It's back again

Trajal Harrell presents his piece Monkey off My Back or the Cat's Meow again in the Schiffbau. With dancers and actors from the Zurich ensemble, a piece is created between historical references and pop culture, between voguing poses and everyday movements of a divided society. Don't miss this spectacular fashion show, and if you have already seen it in a previous season, just go again, it's worth it.

Dancing start to the day

What better way to start your Sunday than by dancing together. Under the direction of Theresa Ihrler, the Kulturhaus Helferei is organising a morning of dancing together. Together you can move, shake and leave the stress of everyday life behind. Afterwards there will be optional warm croissants. The event is open to all bodies who have a desire to move.

Shake into the Day

Get out of the everyday stress and into the liveliness! And that's with dancing together. We will move, shake, breathe and dance together. Afterwards there ...

"Wait quickly!"

That's what we often say, meaning that we're about to finish or ready to go. But (how) is it even possible to wait quickly? On the one hand, it is a call to stand still and at the same time to action. A group of young people led by choreographer and dance teacher Sabine Schindler explore this question in their piece wart schnell . The performers ask each other to wait, to listen and to take their time. So wait quickly, take an evening and listen to the young people and their stories.
