Films against the festive fever

For many people, the festive season is magical, glittering and wonderful. Especially for those under 18. For others, they mean stress. If you don't have any family commitments and suffer from festive fever, you can simply spend the holidays in a different way. For example, with film classics of every genre. This doesn't have to mean sitting alone in front of the TV and watching Three Nuts for Cinderella. The cinema or the open air are great places to watch films with like-minded people. Completely relaxed and without stress.

The Filmpodium is showing the great classics across all genres until 23 December and from 26 December 2023. Alfred Hitchcock, Sergio Leone, Jane Campion, Vittorio de Sica, Fritz Lang - you name it!

The Kino Riffraff is showing the Swiss documentary "Ahimsa" on 24 December 2023 about the power of non-violence. It tells the story of an Indian indigenous people's persistent, year-long, non-violent struggle for the right to land and water.

Another cinematic treat will be shown on 21 December with the "Best of Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2023" - short and snappy!

The Cinema Xenix is once again celebrating Christmas Eve outside at the Christmas Openair with woollen blankets, mulled wine, punch and chilli con/sin carne. Two comedies and satires from the 1960s will be shown: first the vampire film "Dance of the Vampires" by Roman Polanski and then Blake Edwards' "The Pink Panther" in the heated cinema.

On the other days of the festival, the programme includes two socio-critical works that push the pain threshold: Ingmar Bergmann's "Fanny och Alexander" in the 5-hour television version. Hot soup will be served at the bar before the film and during the interval.

Winner of 5 Oscars, Billy Wilder's film "The Apartment" begins as a drama and ends as a charming romantic comedy with a happy ending. With the wonderful Shirley McLaine and Jack Lemmon.
