Transport & public transport romance

The Museum of Transport in Lucerne is already cool, but fans of mobility and public transport romance will also get their money's worth in Zurich - and not just them.

Admonishing art

A motorway viaduct built on stilts into the Sihl rises up next to the Sihlcity shopping centre. The dominant concrete colossus also acts as a memorial against urban development and traffic-related excesses. Beneath this motorway viaduct at Sihlcity is a successful dynamic installation, the suitcase installation by Roman Signer.

Pure public transport romance

Since 2021, the Negrelli footbridge, which connects Europaallee in district 4 with the Gleisterrassen in district 5, has been elegantly swinging over the tracks. Crossing it offers an impressive view of the trains arriving and departing. For a short time, the boards were covered with negroni strips. It remains to be seen whether this is because the footbridge is perfect for a sundowner aperitif.

A must for ferrophiles

The Zurich Museum Railway (ZMB) brings the fascination of Swiss railway history to the rails. It offers a nostalgic journey from Wiedikon to Sihlwald with historic steam locomotives. On 2 December, the locomotive will steam to Samichlaus in Sihlwald.

Ghost freight wagon

The Limmattal marshalling yard (RBL) is the largest freight wagon sorting facility in Switzerland. After the hump, the wagons without drives slide onto the appropriate tracks to be assembled into new trains. From the bridge on Sandäckerstrasse, it is easy to observe the activity at the RBL.

Züri Tram Liebi

The Zurich Tram Museum is located in the city's oldest surviving tram depot, the Burgwies depot, built in 1893. With over 1600 m2 of exhibition space, it is dedicated to the history of the Zurich tram. From 1882, when the first Rösslitram rolled through the streets, to the present day, the tram has characterised the cityscape. The museum offers a journey of discovery into Zurich's past since industrialisation and is also attractive for families with playful elements.
